Opening night with the Artist: Thursday 3rd May 6-8pm
Latent refers to a state of dormancy, a potential for realisation or recognition that has not yet happened. In his latest body of work Kirpy transcribes this notion to his surrounding environment. Each work gives focus to scenes that often fade into the background of the city – sites that have been underappreciated as mere transitional spaces between more ‘significant’ cultural landmarks. Yet these spaces are essential to the character of particular settings. Latent gives recognition to scenes perceived to be on the lower rungs of spatial hierarchies, asking us to see their importance as the unsung backbones of the urban tableau.
