True North Far South
True North Far South is launches a highly anticipated new body of work by Danielle Creenaune. Creenaune’s motivation is the intrinsic dialogue between landscape and people. How it feels to be present in a certain place and the associations we bring to and take from that place. Through printmaking, books and drawing, I aim to suggest this using intuitive marks which oscillate between the figurative and abstract.
In True North Far South I’ve been working towards different notions of what place and landscape hold both here in Catalunya Spain and in South Coast NSW. These are moments suspended in the questioning of a personal True North, the true direction of where life is presently and where it may lead next. In these places and works, at times it’s the big sweeping landscapes that impact with their contemplation, openness, drama and movement. Other times, it is the small nondescript path, many times traveled, the novelty lying in tracing back over steps, noticing the small changes in growth, those who have come and gone, the appearance and disappearance of forms and lines. Making larger works is a whole body experience where the weight and speed of gesture mimic the energy projected in nature. I aim to capture this dynamic with sensitivity.
Creenaune will be traveling from Spain to join us for the official opening celebration for True North, Far South on Saturday 18th November 2-4pm, and we welcome you join us and meet the artist.
