Official Opening Saturday 1st April 2-4pm
To Chris Ingham, art is an impulsive and immediate event. His latest exhibition Urban Figures articulates this relationship to art-making. The prints and bronze sculptures assembled in the exhibition are exemplary of the artists loose, energetic style. Snapshots of passers-by, Ingham’s works are more like studies than complete pictorial images; his work captures not only the energy of his subjects, but his process – Ingham’s hand is as much present on the page as the figures he renders. In this way Urban Figures makes references to lives beyond the singular, bundled-up characters that are idiosyncratic of the artist. Despite the seeming isolation of his ‘urban figures’ Ingham’s style exemplifies the significant, but brief connections of people seeing and being seen on the street.
To celebrate the opening of Ingham’s solo exhibition, it is with great pleasure that we invite you to an afternoon with the artist. Join us in the gallery from 2-4PM Saturday 1st April for an informal conversation about his work and creative practice.
