These works are based on Jessica’s interest in the connection between the human body and the built environment, social inequalities and the influence of humour. These works reference cartography by using blue to indicate water while inserting the human hand in the negative space as the landmass. Is the arm raised in solidarity and hope or a reference to the influence of human activity? The child-like drawings or doodles at first seem frivolous but through that they have a disarming ability to invite a dialogue on the subject matter - migration, unwanted growth or social divisions. However, this built environment is entirely on water indicating an unstable construction that may be altered or washed away. Is this construction worthy of salvaging or in need of changing?
